As part of our commitment, we provide the following opportunities:

Work Experience

At SDC we are keen to provide young people with the opportunity to experience, first-hand, the amazingly diverse career choices available in local government, which is why we offer one-week, unpaid, work experience placements aligned to your school, college or university studies.

Our placements give you a taste of what it's like to work in Local Government, shaping the future of our District and supporting our communities. You'll have the opportunity to develop your understanding of the work we undertake, the difference it makes to people's lives and the skills, attitudes and behaviours required to work with us.

Requirements and How to Apply:

  • Applicants should be based within the District and/or in full-time or part-time education at a school, college or university within the District of Stratford-on-Avon.
  • Simply download and complete the Work Experience Application Form, detailing your area of interest and email your completed form to HR@stratford-dc.gov.uk .
  • Please note, your application should be received at least two months prior to your requested start date.
  • We offer a limited amount of work placement opportunities a year.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships provide a gateway to a new job and learning new skills for all, whether you are seeking to enter the world of work for the first time or seeking a career change. We offer a range of apprenticeship roles that are the first step of a career pathway for a number of professions. These opportunities are reviewed on an annual basis.

In 2025, we are offering Apprenticeship opportunities in the following areas:

  • Democratic Services
  • Print and Post Room
  • Maintenance Services

Graduate Schemes

We currently do not offer any specific Graduate scheme opportunities, however, this is something that we are investigating as part of our future recruitment strategies, so watch this space! That being said, we do advertise a number of roles that are suitable for Graduates, so please sign up for our job alerts to keep up to date with our vacancies.

Career Graded Roles

Career Graded roles are a great way to start your career. They provide a clear pathway of development from entry level through to a fully trained member of the team. Very similar to an Apprenticeship, Career Graded roles are usually aligned to a nationally recognised qualification framework and allow you to progress through the levels at a pace that suits you. We are trialling Career Graded roles, as part of our overall recruitment strategy at SDC, they will be clearly labelled as "Career Graded" on our vacancies page.
