Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick District Councils are seeking the views of victims and witnesses of hate crime in South Warwickshire. A survey has been launched by both Councils, the information from which will be used to help tackle hate crime in specific locations.

You can complete the survey by visiting https://online1.snapsurveys.com/hatecrime

The survey will close on the 27th of November 2024.

A hate crime is defined as 'Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person's race or perceived race; religion or perceived religion; sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation; disability or perceived disability and any crime motivated by hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender.'

Natalie Gist, Portfolio Holder for Law and Governance at Stratford-on-Avon District said: "Hate crime will not be tolerated.  We should be very grateful if both victims and witnesses of hate crime would be kind and brave enough to come forward and help us by completing our survey."

Both Councils are members of the Warwickshire Hate Crime Partnership which is made up of local organisations that have a responsibility for community safety.

The Partnership includes representatives from statutory, voluntary and community organisations including Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire County Council, The Office of the Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Equality & Inclusion Partnership (EQuIP), Victim Support, Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council, North Warwickshire Borough Council and Rugby Borough Council.

All partner organisations agree that hate crime is under-reported in Warwickshire and improvements are needed to increase confidence in the reporting process and broaden the support on offer to victims. The survey will provide accurate information about the experience of hate crime form the viewpoint of victims and witnesses.
