Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet has today, Monday 12 March, endorsed the South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership priorities for 2018/19.

The South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership Priorities for 2018/19 are:

Violent Crime - including domestic violence and abuse
Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) - including substance misuse and street begging
Reducing Re-Offending - focus on offender management
Alcohol and Drugs - particularly in relation to violent crime and ASB
Crime in Rural Areas
Serious Acquisitive Crime - Specifically theft from and of vehicles and residential burglary dwelling

These priorities have been based on evidence from recorded incidents of crime and disorder and through Community Forum priorities.

Cllr Tony Jefferson, Health and Community Safety Portfolio says: "The proposed priorities were arrived at after considerable in depth debate and discussion of the Strategic Assessment. I believe these fairly represent the priorities of our residents and the key areas of crime and disorder.  I fully understand the desire of residents to feel safe and secure and these priorities should help deliver those feelings of safety and security."

Background Information

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, Section 5, sets out that the Council, along with Police, have joint responsibility for preventing and reducing crime and disorder in the District. They are 'Responsible Authorities' and have a duty to co-operate through a Community Safety Partnership (CSP).

The 'Responsible Authorities' have responsibility, under Section 6 of the Act, for formulating and implementing 'a strategy for the reduction of crime and disorder in the area'.

This strategy is known as the Partnership Plan.

Before formulating the Strategy, the responsible authorities shall carry out a review of the levels and patterns of crime and disorder in the area and of the level and patterns of the misuse of drugs in the area. The review is known as the 'Strategic Assessment'
