Stratford-on-Avon District Council to host FREE diabetes testing

Staff and Councillors from Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council are being given the opportunity of a free diabetes test on Thursday 18 October.  

The event will take place at the District Council offices from 10am to 4pm.  

Organised by the Shakespeare Lions, the testing will be carried out by 'Sliver Star Diabetes testing'.  

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high. There are 2 main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2. 

Untreated diabetes can cause any of the following:

  • Heart Disease
  • Stroke
  • Kidney Disease
  • Loss of Sight
  • Nerve Disease
  • Amputation of Limbs

The diabetes test takes 3-5 minutes and will be completely confidential to each individual.  

Those being tested will be asked to complete a simple questionnaire regarding their health

  • Your height is measured
  • Your weight is recorded
  • From the results of 3 and 4 the Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated
  • Your Blood Glucose (sugar) Level is taken
  • If an individual's results are not between set parameters they are advised to take further tests with their GP
  • Finally after all testing a printout is provided of the findings for the individual
