Shipston-on-Stour Neighbourhood Development Plan adopted

At Stratford-on-Avon's Full Council meeting on 15 October, Members unanimously decided to 'make' (adopt) the Shipston-on-Stour Neighbourhood Development Plan under Section 38A(4) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended).  

The Shipston-on-Stour Neighbourhood Development Plan is the ninth to be made in the District and is the culmination of six years' work by the Town Council, neighbourhood plan steering group and the local community, who should all be congratulated for their achievements.    

The Shipston-on-Stour Neighbourhood Development Plan now forms part of the Development Plan for Stratford-on-Avon District and will be a material consideration in the determination of planning applications within the Parish of Shipston-on-Stour.  

Cllr Daren Pemberton, Planning and Building Services Portfolio says: "I would like to congratulate the Shipston NDP group, Town Council and all involved for the good job well done and appreciation for all of their hard work.  Neighbourhood Plans reflect the desire of local communities to influence development in their area and it's good to see the whole community getting involved." 

Voters in Shipston-on-Stour went to the polls on 6 September to respond to the question: "Do you want Stratford-on-Avon District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Shipston-on-Stour to help decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?"  

The results were as follows:

The number of votes cast in favour of YES was 931 (87.33%)
The number of votes cast in favour of NO was 133 (12.47%)
The turnout was 26.59%.      

The Council agreed the following recommendations:  

(1)  That the Shipston-on-Stour Neighbourhood Development Plan be made/adopted with immediate effect with the consequence that it becomes part of the Development Plan for Stratford-on-Avon District

(2)  That Council congratulates the Shipston-on-stour Neighbourhood Development Plan Team on their work in the report to be presented to Council.
