Locals in Lighthorne Heath have been taking part in a local vote during August and September.
The local vote has taken place at the request of the Lighthorne Heath Parish Council to re-name the parish to reflect the changes brought about by the impending major housing development in the area.
Four potential names were chosen by Lighthorne Heath Parish Council which reflect the character and history of the area and locals were asked to vote for the name they liked best. The name receiving the most votes from all electors in the village will be the name adopted.
The postal vote poll has been administered and overseen by Stratford-on-Avon District Council's elections team over the last four weeks to ensure transparency and impartiality and closed at 5pm on Tuesday 17 September.
The count took place at 6pm on Wednesday 18 September at Lighthorne Heath Village Hall.
Voters were asked: What new name do you want the parish to have?
The results of the local vote are as follows:
- King's Holt 15 votes
- King's Meadow 42 votes
- Longbrook 40 votes
- Upper Lighthorne 118 votes
52% of the ballot papers received were in favour of the name Upper Lighthorne
Electorate: 602
602 ballot papers issued - 225 ballot papers received - 10 ballot papers rejected
Turnout: 37.37%
All costs associated with this vote are being met by the developers and not by the Parish Council.
