Stratford-on-Avon District Council has appointed Carbon Trust Advisory Ltd, following a tender process.
Carbon Trust Advisory Ltd will provide technical project management supporting the District Council in the preparation of a detailed project delivery plan for a Low Carbon District Heating Network scheme for the Canal Quarter Regeneration Zone (CQRZ).
The project work will commence later this year and include significant engagement with relevant stakeholders.
The District Heating Network could supply heat to businesses and houses across an area of 27 hectares within the CQRZ immediately northwest of the town centre of Stratford-upon-Avon.
The heat network supports the plans already underway to redevelop brownfield industrial and commercial land identified in the Core Strategy and Canal Quarter masterplan to deliver up to 650 new homes, 9,000 square metres of employment retail and leisure premises, a linear park alongside the canal and multi-purpose community facility.
The District Heat Network will contribute towards our local and national carbon reduction targets, including delivering cheaper energy for residents and businesses alike.
Councillor George Cowcher, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development, said: "This project is a ground-breaking step forward in our aim to reach zero carbon, developing more sustainable systems to deliver heating and energy to our residents and businesses."
