Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet has today, Monday 31 July adopted Farnborough Parish Plan.

This means that that the Parish Plan will now be taken into account in deciding planning applications in the parish - acting as a blueprint for the future of the parish as defined by the community.

Parish Plans are community-led projects that involve identifying and surveying the assets, needs, opportunities, problems and solutions of a community. They provide communities with a framework to take stock for the present and plan for the future.

In March 2014, Farnborough Parish Council decided to prepare a parish plan for Farnborough Parish, following a successful award of the Big Lottery Fund.

A small steering group of volunteers was set up and a parish consultation survey of 130 households was conducted and the results used to develop a draft Parish Plan. The Plan Survey Documentation was finalised in July 2016 for further community consultation; to identify opportunities and challenges within the community that the plan will address.

As a result of this consultation a number of issues were identified including design of future developments in its Conservation Area, parking, broadband provision, village facilities, traffic, lighting and footpaths, which has resulted in an Action Plan.

In December 2016 Farnborough Parish Council formally adopted the Plan.

Cllr Chris Saint, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: "The Farnborough Parish Plan is a good example of how a community can prepare a Plan with guidance and assistance from the Local Planning Authority, which will provide both a good source of local information and a sound basis, through the associated Action Plan, to address the needs and aspirations of the community."
