The Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Cllr Chris Saint and Deputy Leader of Warwickshire County Council, Cllr Peter Butlin have jointly written to residents whose properties are near the proposed South Western Relief Road (SWRR) regarding any compensation claims.

Planning blight has a very specific legal definition and following legal advice in the case of the SWRR, circumstances do not exist that would allow a blight notice to be served on either Council.

The residents' rights to compensation are covered by statute which is normal for any infrastructure project.  It has been suggested that those directly or indirectly affected by the SWRR will not receive compensation, that is not the case and normal compensation events will occur as is their right.

We acknowledge that if the road goes ahead, completion will be some years away, potentially leaving local residents facing uncertainty.  As such we have instructed our Officers to explore further the potential for other forms of compensation.
