Following a meeting of Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Licensing Panel on 4th September 2024, a licensed driver has had his Dual Driver's badge revoked with immediate effect.
The driver, a 71-year-old from Stratford-upon-Avon, had received previous warnings of his poor conduct and breach of licence conditions.
The Panel considered the incidents reported by the Licensing Officer and concluded that his driving fell below the standards expected of drivers licensed by the District Council bringing into question his fitness and propriety to continue to hold a Dual Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver's Licence.
The Panel unanimously resolved to revoke the Dual Driver's Licence and considered that it was in the interests of public safety that the revocation should have immediate effect.
The driver has a right of appeal to the Magistrate's Court within 21 days of the notice of decision. The driver has chosen not to appeal and therefore is no longer a licensed driver with Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
Cllr Lorraine Grocott, Portfolio Holder for Environmental and Neighbourhood Services, said: "Public safety is of vital importance when it comes to considering whether a driver is fit and proper to hold a licence. In protecting public safety, we expect our drivers to maintain the high standard that is expected of them and their licensed vehicles when carrying passengers, especially those that are vulnerable or elderly in our community.
The standard that Stratford on Avon District Council expects of its licensed drivers fell below that which is expected from this driver."
