December 2024 marks 130 years since the Local Government Act of 1894 gave women the right to stand as a district councillor.

57 per cent of Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet members are women. And 39 per cent of the District Council's councillors are women.

This year also marks 50 years since the creation of Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

Cllr Susan Juned, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, said: "As we mark 130 years of the right for women to stand as a District Councillor and 50 years of the formation of the District Council, we must remember all those who have contributed to public service and democracy in that time.

Women's right to be a part of the democratic process was hard won. I am proud to be a small part of this history."
