Stratford-on-Avon District Council is working alongside Warwickshire County Council to prepare a safe and smooth integration for families arriving here through the Government's UK Resettlement Programme.

Both Councils are working with partners to provide a package of support to families for up to three years and are looking for suitable properties needed for families.

Are you a landlord with a property in Stratford-on-Avon District?

Do you have a self-contained rental property in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon or in the District? All sizes of property will be considered, but they must be self-contained.

Funding will be available to landlords to cover rent during any void period, from the date the property is accepted on the scheme by the Home Office to occupation.

Landlords would be expected to issue families / tenants with an Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST) for 12 to 24 months and both would receive support and advice during the tenancy.

If you are a landlord or letting agent with a private rented property or would like more information on the scheme, please contact Emma Thrussell at Stratford-on-Avon District Council on 01789 260792 or email emma.thrussell@stratford-dc.gov.uk

The District Council has committed to resettling up to 25 families over a five-year period - to date 15 families have resettled in the local area.

UK Resettlement Scheme
The global resettlement scheme is open to vulnerable refugees around the world. Individuals coming through this scheme are assessed and referred by the UNHCR according to their criteria, which is based on people's needs and vulnerabilities.

People coming via this route only move to the UK once suitable accommodation is in place for them. Since its launch in 2021, the UK has taken refugees through this route from countries including Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.

Since the first arrivals under the new UK Resettlement scheme in March 2021, 2,023 refugees have been resettled in the UK via the UKRS, as of December 2022.

The UK also offers safe and legal routes through the following schemes:

  • Community Sponsorship - enables civil society - friends and neighbours, charities and faith groups - to directly support refugees resettled in the UK
  • Mandate Scheme - a global scheme that resettles refugees who have a close family member in the UK who is willing to accommodate them
  • Family Reunion - this policy provides a safe and legal route for families to be reunited. This allows immediate family members (partner and children under 18, and over 18 in exceptional circumstances) of those granted protection in the UK to join them here, if they formed part of a family unit before the sponsor left their country to seek protection.
  • Afghan Citizens Resettlement Programme and Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy
  • Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas)
  • Ukraine Schemes
