Students in south Warwickshire will be performing plays with a difference next week, when they help raise awareness about food poisoning to school children. National Food Safety Week, 13-19 June, is an annual campaign aimed at highlighting simple precautions to avoid suffering from food poisoning.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council, South Warwickshire Dietetic Service and Stratford-upon-Avon College are working together to raise awareness of food safety and healthy eating through a series of theatre in education targeted at primary school children across the district.

Performances by Stratford-upon-Avon College include: Germinators; The Fairy of Soap; Everclean; Germbusters; Abofantastico; and Germy Journey. STOP, THINK, WASH!  is the focus for this year's campaign and raising awareness of how hands can spread germs.

The performers will aim to encourage good personal hygiene amongst the children, and to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables each day. Recommended daily intake 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day - 80 grams per portion.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council won national recognition for excellence, innovation and creativity in food safety communication in 2002. Performances will be delivered to 36 primary and pre schools across the district reaching in the region of 12,000 children.
