Not every accident is a lucky escape…

That is the theme of this year's Child Safety Week, spreading the message that you can't trust luck to keep children safe. Every year, millions of children do have lucky escapes, but that doesn't mean that there's any room for complacency. 

Thousands of children who cheat death are left scarred for life or permanently disabled.  Last year almost 300 children and young people died (national figures). Children from the poorest families are particularly vulnerable - they are far more likely to be killed or admitted to hospital with more severe injuries than their better-off counterparts.

To raise awareness of important child safety issues, Alcester Opportunities is hosting a free safety event next week for families in the Alcester area. The event is supported by Stratford-on-Avon District Council, South Warwickshire PCT, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and Warwickshire Specialist Health Promotion Service.

There will be free competitions, quizzes, giveaways and lots of helpful information and advice on accident prevention and a chance to win prizes. (First prize - safety equipment to the value of £50.00)

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service will also have one of its fire tenders on display.
