SDC have introduced bins at its six mini recycling centres plus a village site for the collection of HDPE milk type plastic bottles and PET fizzy drinks plastic bottles.
Councillor Alan Akeister, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said "We are introducing this trial scheme in response to residents' requests for more plastic recycling opportunities in our district.
"The success of the scheme will depend upon residents "washing and squashing" their bottles and putting only the plastic bottles specified in the correct bins - tops can be left on bottles"
He added "The scheme is made possible by a local plastics recycling company, JFC/Delleve Plastics Ltd, based near Ettington who are able to take our HDPE and PET plastic bottles."
The HDPE bottles will be used to make plastic pipes and the PET bottles will be used to make non woven fibres for the Polyester market.
The seven sites are:
The Bell Inn, Alderminster;
Anglo Saxon Car Park, Bidford;
School Avenue Car Park, Salford Priors;
Norgren Social Club, Pittway Avenue, Shipston;
Wood Street Car Park, Southam;
Safeway, Stratford;
Tesco, Stratford.
The trial will be reviewed after six months.
If the bins are full, residents should telephone 01789 260616 so that this can be rectified. There are bins at most of the sites where the plastic bags and cardboard boxes used to transport material to the sites can be left - the material from this bin is not recycled.Stratford-on-Avon District Council
