A schoolboy from Tanworth-in-Arden has scooped the first prize in a food safety competition held this summer. Eight year old Luke Simkiss described what healthy food choices he would put into a lunch box and three important messages about keeping the food safe from germs.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council, South Warwickshire Dietetic Service and Stratford-upon-Avon College worked together to raise awareness of food safety and healthy eating during National Food Safety Week in June. Luke will be presented with a £50.00 voucher next Tuesday by district council chairman Cllr Tony Dixon.
Food Safety Week is an annual campaign aimed at highlighting simple precautions to avoid suffering from food poisoning. This year students from Stratford College performed plays at a number of schools across the district to encourage good personal hygiene amongst the children, and to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables each day. Recommended daily intake 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day - 80 grams per portion.
