Teaching granny to suck eggs takes on a more serious tone next week, with a safety course at Stratford Racecourse aimed at older people. Safety in Warwickshire Opportunities for Older People, SWOOP, is a free event aimed at raising awareness of personnel safety and crime prevention messages for the over 50s.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council will be hosting the SWOOP event, which features over 20 exhibitions providing information for older people on health, welfare, pensions, benefits, education, legal services, housing and much more. It takes place on Tuesday 1 November between 1.30 and 3.30pm after the regular bi-monthly SCAN (Senior Citizens Action Network) meeting.
SWOOP is also open to carers, supporters, friends and relatives of older people, with the aim of helping improve the quality of life. The event will feature talks on issues such as helping to prevent falls, home safety, community safety, consumer awareness, and fire prevention. Participants will be shown potentially dangerous situations and what they can do to sort the problem.
This will be the sixth year the event has been organised by the district council, which is working with Warwick District Council on key health issues that affect both districts.
Photographers are welcome to attend SWOOP.
