All’s ‘Fair’ in football

Staff from Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Stratford Leisure Centre will be playing a 5-a-side football match on Wednesday 8 March, but with a difference - using a Fair Trade football.

It may not be the 2006 FIFA World Cup but the game will be just as fiercely competitive with the winners keeping the match ball.

A company that gives a fair days wage for a fair days work, not by a sweatshop in the Far East, has made the Fair Trade football.

Fair Trade refreshments will also be on offer after the game.  Stir Café at Stratford Leisure Centre already provide a range of Fair Trade food produce.

The match has been staged to help launch the District Council's Fair Trade event on Thursday 16 March at Elizabeth House between 10am and 2pm.  There will be stalls from Oxfam, Marks and Spencer, Medlars Farm in Snitterfield, Traid Craft and there will be plenty of free samples of Fair Trade goodies on offer.

The Fair Trade event is part of a bid by Church's Together and Local Agenda 21 to make Stratford a Fair Trade Town.
