Stratford-on-Avon District Council has been re-awarded the Disability Two-ticks Award.

The award aims to recognise good practise at the District Council by actively encouraging disabled members of the public to apply for jobs at the Council and helping newly disabled members of staff stay in employment.

As part of this award the council has to show that it meets the following 5 commitments:

  • Interviewing all applicants with a disability that meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
  • Disabled employees must be able to discuss what can be done to ensure they can develop and use their abilities.
  • Where an employee becomes disabled during whilst working at the Council to take steps to ensure that they stay in employment.
  • To ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness.
  • To review the 5 commitments each year by seeing what has been achieved and to plan ways to improve and to provide feedback on the scheme.

This award enables the District Council to publicly promote this success by using the two-ticks disability symbol on recruitment adverts and in turn supports the local government role of 'model-employer'.

The council was first awarded the symbol in March 1996.
