Stratford-on-Avon District Council officials together with the Police and the CCTV Control Room managed to foil an attempted theft from the pay and display machines at the District Council car parks in Stratford over the Bank Holiday.
District Council staff were made aware, through partnership working and contacts of a threat to take the cash boxes from the pay and display machines. Any threat is not taken lightly and every preventable measure would be taken to prevent not only costly damage to the pay and display machines but also the loss of income that would be incurred.
An emergency operation took place and staff commenced the cash collection exercise, while CCTV staff looked on remaining in communication with the officers to ensure their safety. All the money was removed safely and given to the District Council's contractors, for normal procedures to be followed.
During this time two suspicious vehicles were reported to the police and consequently 3 people were arrested.
"The team work on this operation was second to none," says Yvette Saunders, Parking Services Manager.
"I am extremely impressed and proud of the professionalism and dedication that resulted in not only preventing the theft of many thousands of pounds but also the arrest of 3 of the culprits."
