Stratford-on-Avon District Council has developed a new Housing Strategy for 2006 - 2011.

Consultation for the housing strategy was undertaken to find out what different people thought were the most important housing issues in this District.  The Council consulted widely, including all residents of the District via the Council's newsletter, Your Review, service users, partner organisations, older people's groups and younger people's groups.

Following consultation, the most important issues emerged as:

  • More affordable housing including more affordable housing for people in rural areas, and for single people
  • More housing and support for vulnerable people to enable them to live independently
  • More adaptations for disabled people
  • Reducing rough sleeping
  • Preventing homelessness

All these issues have been incorporated into the District Council's new Housing Strategy under the following three aims:

Aim 1: To increase the supply of affordable housing both in Stratford town and surrounding rural areas to meet local needs.

Aim 2:  To enable people to live independently in good quality homes.

Aim 3: To reduce homelessness

An Action Plan in the Strategy explains how and when the aims will be delivered. In June 2006, Full Council agreed the new Housing Strategy and the complete strategy, including the action plan, can be viewed in full on the District Council's website at www.stratford.gov.uk/files/seealsodocs/4946/Housing%20Strategy%202006.pdf
