Twelve car parks around Stratford-on-Avon District offer safer places to park and have been awarded the National Safer parking Award, which places Stratford-on-Avon District Council second behind Coventry for the number of car parks with the award.

The Park marks are awarded under the Safer parking Scheme managed by the British Parking Association (BPA) on behalf of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

To win a Park Mark Safer Parking Award, a car park has to be vetted by the Police to confirm that it meets a range of requirements to help deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.

"This is excellent news and a credit to the hard work and dedication of the parking services team," says Councillor Chris Williams, Community Services Portfolio Holder.

"Developing safer and healthier communities by cutting crime and improving public confidence is one of the Council's corporate priorities and the idea of this scheme is to reassure members of the public using the car park that there are measures in place to create a safe environment and reduce crime."

The car parks that have retained the Safer Parking Awards are:

  • Bridgefoot, Stratford
  • Bleachfield Street, Alcester
  • Bridge, Shipston
  • Prince Harry Road, Henely
  • Wood Street, Southam
  • Pool Road, Studley

The car parks that have received the Safer PArking Awards for the first time are:

  • West Street, Shipston
  • Mill Street, Shipston
  • Arden Street, Shipston
  • Church Street, Stratford
  • Saxon Fields, Bidford
  • Coach & Lorry park, Stratford
