The planning and listed building consent applications for major refurbishment works to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RST), including the creation of a new auditorium within the building and construction of a new tower by Waterside, were considered by Stratford-on-Avon District Council's West Area Planning Committee yesterday, 19 April.
The Planning Committee supported the proposals, which will now be referred to the Secretary of State before any planning permissions can be issued.
The RST has already closed in anticipation, and the Royal Shakespeare Company hopes to begin work as soon as planning permission and listed building consent have been received, with a view to the theatres re-opening in 2010.
