Danger Warning for trees on the Stratford Recreation Ground

Stratford-on-Avon District Council warns the public of the risk of falling trees on the Recreation Ground on the south bank of the River Avon in Stratford-upon-Avon.  

This afternoon Warwickshire County Council's team of Tree Inspectors have been out to inspect the trees and the area has been cordoned off in preparation for the removal of up to fifteen willows as they pose a serious threat to safety. Four trees have already fallen due to their instability and more could fall.  

The level of the River Avon has worsened the situation over recent days, with the land being saturated.  

Due to the risk to the public, the work is of the highest priority and the removal of the willows will commence as soon as possible, but it is being hindered by the condition of the land after flooding.  

"The safety of the public is paramount. While the trees are being made safe urgently, the Council will replant trees when situations allow." Says Paul Lankester, Chief Executive.
