Work has been completed 4 weeks ahead of schedule for the swimming pools at Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre which will now reopen next week on Monday 6 August at 7am.
The pools were scheduled to be closed from 1 July to 3 September to carry out essential maintenance.
"This is superb news for all our leisure centre users. Major projects of this nature are always difficult to predict and you never know what you may uncover when you get down to it," says Cllr Chris Williams Community Services Portfolio.
"The team from Buckingham Swimming Pools, that the Council appointed, together with staff at the Leisure Centre have done a remarkable job and have enabled this refurbishment to take place as quickly as possible with minimal disruption to customers and 4 weeks ahead of schedule.
"The pools and changing room areas have also under gone a programme of deep cleaning during the close down. Over 40 tonnes of original cast iron pipework has been replaced with 300 metres of polyurethane pipework. This new replacement pipework system will mean that the pool systems will now be more energy efficient and help to minimise the Leisure Centre's carbon footprint.
"With the atrocious weather we've had recently I'm sure this will be great news for parents and children alike to have another place to go during the summer holiday break. Summer months are traditionally quieter as the swimming lesson programme for schools is not run and people tend to go away or visit out door places, but given the recent weather finishing this project ahead of plan will come as a welcome relief for many."
