Maudslay Park Planning Inquiry

A Public Inquiry starts next week on Tuesday 5 June, following an appeal by Bill Gair relating to a planning application at Maudslay Park, Great Alne, Stratford-upon-Avon  

The appeal relates to a proposal at Maudslay Park in Great Alne involving the redevelopment of an industrial site on the edge of a small rural village with a large development, including:  

 ·         construction of 174 independent care units for residents aged 55 and over;

·         a 50 bed care home;

·         a resident warden's dwelling;

·         Community facilities including a central facilities building; and

·         up to 900sqm of start-up office/workshop floorspace  

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has refused the application on the following grounds:  

1.      The proposals for this isolated rural site are not shown to meet local needs identified by the local community.

2.      The proposals would not create a mixed and balanced community.

3. The proposals are contrary to planning polices in the development plan.

4. The proposals are contrary to the current moratorium on new housing in the District.  

The Inquiry, expected to last for 4 days, will be held at the Council Offices, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon starting at 10am.  A Government Planning Inspector will preside over the Inquiry.  

Members of the public may attend the Inquiry and express their view - at the discretion of the Inspector.
