Stratford-on-Avon District Council would like to remind pet owners of their responsibilities following the cruel abandonment of a dog recently.
Last week a Rottweiler dog was found abandoned and chained, with a welded padlocked, to a gate at Sambourne Kennels, near Studley.
The dog is currently staying at a private rescue kennels near Alcester and is looking to be re-homed.
If you can help or would like to offer this dog a home please e-mail sophie.peacock@stratford-dc.gov.uk or phone 0773 444 2785.
The dog is a male Rottweiler aged between 1-2 years old. Due to the dog being a stray and having no history, the dog will not be re-homed to a family with children.
Pet owners are reminded that, if circumstances change and they can no longer look after an animal, there are correct procedures to go through, rather than chaining an animal to a gate.
If you need to get an animal re-homed then please contact a rescue centre near to where you live. All stray dogs collected from the Stratford District are taken to Birmingham Dogs Home on 0121 6435211.
"It is always sad to find animals in this way," says Sophie Peacock, the District Council's Dog Warden/Animal Welfare Officer.
"The owners of this dog obviously didn't want him anymore and thought the best thing was to leave him at a kennels. They clearly can't take him in as it's not a rescue centre. If you are finding it difficult please contact your local animal rescue centre."
