The enhancement work to Bancroft Gardens in Stratford-upon-Avon has been unexpectedly delayed due to an application by representatives of Stratford Voice for Village Green Status.
"Due to the intervention of the Village Green Status application from Stratford Voice while the Council could carry on with works regardless, as a responsible authority, Stratford District Council feels that it is only right to let this matter take due process," says Paul Lankester, Chief Executive of Stratford District Council.
"It is understood the process could take anything up to six months, and it is disappointing the costs to the public purse will increase due to this application."
"While we are delaying these works to Bancroft Gardens, the Council will carry out any works necessary to ensure public safety. Failing that it would be necessary to close the area to the public."
In the meantime the planting scheme for Bancroft Gardens will be rescheduled accordingly and any work to the trees on the site will be urgent safety works.
