Officially Good

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is officially a 'GOOD' authority, which is the final outcome of the recent Audit Commission inspection of the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA).

Inspectors were on site in June where they interviewed staff, Councillors, partners and looked through lots of documentary evidence.

"I am pleased with this achievement of being recognised as a good Council, following our previous assessment in 2004.  Our improvement is down to a team effort and my thanks go to every single member of the Stratford District team, members, officers and partners," Cllr Les Topham, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council

"While I am pleased with recognition of the Council's improvement, we will not be complacent and will continue to work hard to improve and strive to serve better the people of Stratford District," says Paul Lankester, Chief Executive of Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

Just some of the feedback from the report:

"Stratford-on-Avon District Council has made significant progress.....and is now a good council performing well across all of its services.  Priorities for the area are based on effective intelligence.......and learns from internal and external challenge and benchmarking.  Partnership working is extensive.......with clear political and managerial leadership."

Other highlights include:

• Local people very satisfied with Council services.
• Reasonable financial base with large reserves for investment into key capital projects to benefit the long-term future of the District.
• Improvements in all areas, especially priority areas.
• Understanding the issues that matter to local communities and priorities reflect this.
