The market town of Shipston-on-Stour will be making an entrance with the erection of traditional gateway signposts in the town, located on the Stratford Road and the Darlingscott Road.

The initiative is a partnership project between Stratford-on-Avon District Council, the Market Towns' Initiative group Stour Power, Warwickshire County Council, and Shipston Town Council.

Local artist, Christopher Townsend was commissioned to research and develop designs which will improve the gateway entrances to the town and reflect the unique identity of Shipston-on-Stour.

Early designs have been developed through public consultation to take account of the views of local people. The new gateways' design inspiration came from existing features and unique materials in Shipston town, and the planting of wildflowers around the gateway posts will speed up their established and authentic aesthetic look when in situ.

"The success of this project is a clear example of community involvement and the use of local talents coming together to create something unique and fitting for a market town maintaining its individuality." Says Councillor Chris Williams, Community Services Portfolio Holder.

"The Market Towns' Initiative has provided an opportunity for the Local Authority to engage with community volunteer groups, and together deliver what is wanted."
