Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Heritage and Design team are undertaking a programme to review all 75 Conservation Areas designated within the District.

The Conservation Area Reviews are part of an ongoing work programme being carried out by Stratford-on-Avon District Council to enable the Planning Development team to determine whether planning applications preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Conservation Area.  For further information on the implications of Conservation Area status please refer to the Conservation Area section of the website.

When draft appraisals are produced, these are made available for public consultation.  Residents will be asked to consider issues such as whether the current Conservation Area boundaries are appropriate, which structures, buildings and streets are most valued or considered most important and which places could be improved and how.

The public consultation provides an opportunity to share information and gather feedback and urges residents and visitors of the particular settlement to play their part in the protection and enhancement of the Conservation Area.

The purpose of public consultation is:

  • To ensure that the document produced is as accurate and comprehensive as possible;
  • To benefit from local knowledge and experience, this may relate to the history of the area or in the identification of issues;
  • To ensure we are all working towards the same objectives;
  • To increase understanding of what conservation area designation means and encourage local involvement in the conservation of the area; and To ensure that everyone has a say on the management of their local area.
