The options for the future of Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre are being drawn together for discussion and consideration by Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

Capita Symonds Consulting has been appointed to produce an outline business case analysing options for the future of the current Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre.

The Centre and three other Centres within the District are currently being managed by SLM Ltd. The building of a new facility within Shakespeare's town of Stratford upon Avon is a real possibility. The existing facility has proved very popular over the last 34 years, but is getting towards the end of its lifespan therefore an investigation into the options available and their financial implications will help District Councillors make an informed decision as to the Centre's future.

"A new facility or improvement works to the existing Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre facilities would benefit residents and visitors alike. Stratford-on-Avon District Council and its management partners, SLM Ltd. feel that they should be offering more to their customers in terms of accessible and desirable facilities in which to exercise." Says Councillor Chris Williams, Portfolio for Community Services.

"Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre had a life-expectancy of 30 years when it was built in 1974. Maintaining an older building inevitably becomes more costly, and with newer buildings being more energy and carbon efficient, the Council is keen to take these issues into consideration."

"With rising obesity levels nationally and locally, the Council is seeking to help people to live active lives.  A modern leisure centre for historic Stratford upon Avon could play a major role in achieving that ambition."
