Last week a dog was found abandoned cowering under a bush in Bishops Itchington in a terrible state with matted fur and abdominal infection among other ailments.
Due to the health of the dog, its outlook appeared bleak until concerned village residents clubbed together to pay for the life-saving treatment.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council is appealing to anyone who knows anything about the dog (a female Springer Spaniel aged about 10 years old) to come forward, if you can help please e-mail sophie.peacock@stratford-dc.gov.uk or phone 01789 260839.
Pet owners are reminded that, if circumstances change and they can no longer look after an animal, there are correct procedures to go through, rather than abandoning an animal. If you need to get an animal re-homed then please contact a rescue centre near to where you live.
All stray dogs collected from Stratford District Area are re-homed by the Dog Warden/Animal Welfare Officer with help from rescuers and rescue centres.
"This was a particularly distressing case to come to my attention." says Sophie Peacock, the District Council's Dog Warden/Animal Welfare Officer.
"When we took the dog in she was in such a state we were not sure she would live, but she is such a happy little dog who wasn't ready to die. After the generosity of local residents and neighbours as well as discounted treatment from Avonvale vets in Southam, who have all helped enormously, we are now able to give her treatment to extend and improve her life. She will stay with us permanently and our three dogs, a much loved addition to the family," says the District resident who took in the abandoned dog.
