Stratford-on-Avon District Councils staff initiative has attracted local green and community-minded businesses to join a simple and practical environmental awareness event by planting trees throughout the District.

To kick start the scheme, District Council staff with partners; Lodders, NFU Mutual, Retirement Security Ltd, Stratford Town Management Partnership (STMP), Tim Cox Associates and Veolia have donated time and money to plant trees during National Tree Planting Week on Monday 1 December.

Local Nature Reserve, Clopton Park, near the Welcombe Hills in Stratford was the chosen site to re-instate an old avenue of picturesque oak trees as a restful and beguiling* walking area for the residents of the District.

More tree-planting is planned through 2009, with the help of additional local businesses with a goal of planting over 300 trees across the District helping to raise environmental awareness and enriching our open spaces for future generations and wildlife.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council staff raised money for the scheme by holding a Dress Down Day, meaning no taxpayers money is being used in this initiative. Any surplus funds raised will be put towards the further initiatives during 2009.

Giving back to the area we work in is something many people want to do.  Planting trees is a simple but effective way of doing that and helping the environment. says Paul Lankester.

This initiative is looking long-term and together, with more local businesses, we can really make a difference benefiting nature and improving the vista of this beautiful District for years to come.
