Stratford-on-Avon District Council will be carrying out a series of works to rejuvenate one of Stratfords scenic walks over the Christmas period with three phases of works on the Tramway Walk that forms part of the Recreation Ground.

The Tramway Embankment in Stratford is a much used route for residents and tourists to walk from the Butterfly Farm up towards Seven Meadows Road where they can walk down to the river, or on towards Clifford Chambers. In recent years it has become overgrown and enclosed, encouraging anti-social behaviour and impacting on the amenity of it for members of the public.

Phase 1 will consist of work to widen the walkway by cutting back shrubbery and opening up the path and embankment, and will be carried out by our existing grounds maintenance contractors Veolia Environmental Services in the next two weeks.

Phase 2 will involve a series of sympathetic tree works to open up some enclosed areas, restoring views across the recreation ground by removing trees that are in a state of decline due to disease and structural weaknesses. This work will be carried out by Warwickshire County Council Foresters on behalf of the District Council in January.

Phase 3 will be to plant new trees along the route to keep its existing character and contribute to the sensory walk for partially sighted residents.

As part of these works it will be necessary to limit access along sections of the tramway whilst our contractors are on
site to ensure public safety and keeping any disruption to a minimum.
