Residents are being urged to recycle their Christmas cards and then use their vote online to try and get thousands of trees planted in Warwickshire.

Warwickshire Waste Partnership, made up of Warwickshire County Council and the five district and borough councils, is backing the Woodland Trusts Christmas Card recycling scheme.

People can get involved throughout January by recycling cards in special bins in WHSmith, TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer, and by doing so will be helping the Woodland Trust reach its target to plant 12,000 native trees.

Local people can also support Warwickshire by voting for the Woodland Trust to plant the trees in our region.

Since the Woodland Trust started its Christmas Card Recycling Scheme, a total of 659m cards have been recycled - 59m last year alone, which funded the planting of 14,000 trees.

In the 12 years of the project, 13,080 tonnes of cards have been collected, allowing the Trust to plant 155,000 trees

Laura Underwood, from Recycle Now, said: "We're delighted to support the Woodland Trust recycling scheme this Christmas. Christmas is a time when we naturally generate waste, so recycling as much as possible can really help to de-clutter our homes in time for our family and friends visiting. By recycling your Christmas cards, its great to know that youre helping a good cause and are able to vote for the region that you'd like your trees to be planted in."
