Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet today, Monday 6 September has recommended that the District Council offices will close between Christmas and New Year this year.

Councillor Stephen Gray, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: "As a result of funding pressures facing the District Council over the next two years, a variety of cost saving measures are being examined and closing the offices during the December holiday period was one of the options.

"A consultation was undertaken with staff last November and almost three quarters of those surveyed were in support of a move to close the Council offices.  The decision to close the offices would achieve a cost saving of approximately £1000 through a reduction in heating costs, and there will be an 'out of hours' provision to anyone needing any services in an emergency.

"It is clear that the offices are not busy over the Christmas period and those with internet access will still be able to access services online."

During late 2008 staff were asked to make suggestions to the Chief Executive for ways to achieve some of the savings and these suggestions were consulted on in November 2009.

All staff will be required to take 2 days of their annual leave entitlement.
