The 1st Stratford-upon-Avon Community Games are taking place on Saturday 18th September on the Recreation Ground by the Bandstand, 11am - 2pm. The event is completely free and open to all the family so, if you get a chance to come down, please do so with all or any members of your family.

The Community Games have been established as part of the West Midlands programme of activity leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The aim is to inspire communities to come together in both a sporting and cultural way and we are hoping this will be the first of many events in or around Stratford-upon-Avon and the District with London 2012 in mind.

The Stratford Games will open at 11am and be followed by music and entertainment including a Jazz band, Belly Dancing and a Mezzoforte Dance club performance as well as all sorts of fun and games.

For the sporting enthusiasts wanting to take part there will be a rowing competition (with the use of machines not on the river!), an athletics agility challenge, badminton skills session and a 'keepie uppie' football competition and for the rest of the family and the younger audience we have a circus entertainment workshop, puppet shows, hula-hooping demo and 'have a go' session, face painting and a mobile climbing wall. We are also staging a 'traditional sports day' competition including egg & spoon, sack and 3-legged races and a tug of war.
