A  Bidford resident has been successfully prosecuted for failing to clean up after his dog fouled a communal green between Lambourne Close and Wadeleys Close in Bidford-on-Avon.

Leamington Magistrates' Court fined Mr Simmons of Wadeleys Close £150 and also awarded Stratford-on-Avon District Council £200 costs.

Following complaints from local residents the District Council's dog warden investigated the matter and made regular checks.  Mr Simmons was given a £75 fixed penalty notice but failed to pay it and was then prosecuted for the offence.

Sophie Peacock, Stratford District Council's Dog Warden says:" This case gives a clear message to dog owners that they need to take responsibility for their animals but also for helping to keep the place they live clean. The District Council will not tolerate dog fouling which quite simply is disgusting.  Anyone caught failing to clear up after their dog will be issued with a fixed penalty notice, or as in this case, prosecuted through the courts."

"Although most dog owners recognise their responsibilities there is a significant minority who do not seem to understand. Dog mess, apart from being very unpleasant, can cause serious disease - particularly in children. We are imploring dog owners to make sure that they always take a bag with them and that they pick up their dog's mess and dispose of it properly."

Reports of dog fouling should be made to the District Council on 01789 260835.
