Stratford District Council wins award for its loos

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is pleased to have won two 5-star and nine 4-star Grades at the Loo of the Year Awards in the 2010 search to find the best 'away from home' toilets in the UK.

The District Council's entries were in the Local Authority Public Toilet category, where the toilet service is run by the District Council's in-house team together with its cleaning contractor, ISS Facility Services Ltd.

The Loo of the Year Awards have been identifying the best in Britain since 1987 and are recognised as standard setters for those who provide 'away from home' facilities for members of the public.

Every entry received an unannounced visit from an authorised Loo of the Year Awards Inspector and was assessed against over 100 judging criteria - including signage and décor, fixtures and fittings and overall standards of cleanliness and management.  Every loo receives a star grading ranging from 1 to 5 and the five-star winners are short listed for one of a number of National Awards covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Hundreds of entries were received this year, across the sixty separate categories of the competition.

Bridgefoot, Stratford-upon-Avon
Recreation Ground, Stratford-upon-Avon
Windsor Street, Stratford-upon-Avon
Bulls Head Yard, Alcester
High Street, Bidford-on-Avon
Station Road, Henley-in-Arden
Telegraph Street, Shipston-on-Stour
Wood Street, Southam
Priory Square, Studley

Councillor Simon Jackson, Environment Portfolio says: "The District Council is pleased to have its existing commitment and expenditure directed towards maintaining standards of toilet facilities recognised by these awards.
