No Council Tax rise for Stratford District

Councillors have set the district element of the council tax in the Stratford-on-Avon District, at a full meeting of the Council on Monday 28 February.

The average Band D figure for Stratford-on-Avon District Council households for the 2011/12 financial year remains the same at £129.34, the lowest in Warwickshire.

This means that all the services provided by the District Council are only costing £2.49 per week for a Band D household.

The council tax from Stratford-on-Avon District Council for residents for each of the valuation bands is:

A     £86.23                        

B     £100.60                

C     £114.97                                              

D     £129.34                      

E      £158.08                

F      £186.82

G      £215.57                      

H      £258.68

Cllr Stephen Gray, Leader of the Council says: “This has been the toughest budget in many years, with the District Council, along with the rest of the public sector, facing funding cuts of a level never seen before.  We face challenging financial times and our aim has been to ensure we are as lean and effective an organisation as possible, identifying how best to deliver the services that residents in the District want.

“The Government is tackling the unprecedented national deficit they inherited and Stratford District Council's financial support has been reduced by 28 per cent over four years and we have been forced into making some £2million of cuts in our spending this year.  However, with the additional funding the Government is offering Councils, who freeze council tax, we have been able to keep the council tax level as the same as last year. This is an incredible achievement, given what we have had to work with and something that I'm sure residents will warmly welcome."
