Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Planning Committee (West) taking place at 6.15pm at the District Council's headquarters in Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon on Wednesday 16 February will be broadcast live on the internet.

Councillor Kim James, Chairman of Planning says: “Due to the high public interest on this particular committee agenda the District Council acknowledges this interest and learning from its past experience we are working with our partners at Stratford College to make use of technology and making the meeting totally inclusive by showing it on the web."

“This will enable as many people as possible to view the proceedings live or at a time that suits them, from their workplace, home or any other place with access to the Internet.

“Webcasts are an excellent way to give the wider community an insight into local democracy.  It will provide everyone with an opportunity to view local decision making affecting their community."

The meeting will be broadcast on www.stratford.gov.uk/live by Stratford-upon-Avon College.

People will be able to watch the webcast live or view recordings later whenever they want.  Those who do not have access to the internet at home can watch the webcast at their local library.  Members of the public are advised to check availability with your local library first.  The recordings will also be held on the website for viewers who cannot log in for the live coverage.

This initiative for the District Council is designed to improve access to the Council through electronic means and the provision of effective services through the use of technology.

It is not the first time the District Council has broadcast a meeting on the website the first was back in 2008 and the Full Council meeting that included the debate about the proposed Eco-Town at Long Marston and then last year working with Stratford College the State of the District debate was broadcast live from Stratford Town Hall.

  • The capacity in the civic suite is 100 and there is also additional space of 45 in the foyer of the main reception area at Elizabeth House where there will be a PA system and a plasma screen, but this will not show the actual meeting only the plans and presentations presented at the meeting.
