The District, Parish & Town Council elections are being held on Thursday 5 May 2011 and Poll Cards notifying residents of these elections are being sent out from Stratford-on-Avon District Council this week.

This date is also the same day residents will be going to the polls to vote in the national Referendum on the Parliamentary Voting System.

The Poll cards inform residents in the District where their polling station is and when they can vote from, 7am until 10pm on 5 May.

To be able to vote at these elections residents must either be on the electoral register or have applied to be so no later than Thursday 14 April 2011.  Please contact Stratford District Council's Elections Office on 01789 260208 to check you are on the electoral register at your current address.

Postal votes are available to any District resident but are especially useful for those that are unable to get to a polling station on polling day, due to health reasons or maybe on holiday or working away.

All completed applications forms for postal votes must be submitted before 5pm on Thursday 14 April 2011.

National Referendum: The national Referendum on the voting system for future Parliamentary elections is also being held on the same day. The Chief Counting Officer (the Chair of the Electoral Commission) has overall responsibility for the referendum. A booklet will be delivered to all households during early April by the Electoral Commission, and they have a website, www.aboutmyvote.co.uk where you can print off find more information and forms to register to vote.  There is also a helpline 0800 3 280 280.

The District wards up for elections this year are: Alcester, Bidford & Salford, Fenny Compton, Henley, Kineton, Shipston, Southam, Stockton & Napton, Stratford Alveston, Stratford Avenue & New Town, Stratford Guild & Hathaway, Stratford Mount Pleasant, Studley, Tredington, Welford, Wellesbourne and will also include 2 by-elections Harbury and Long Itchington.

 The Town and Parishes up for election this year are: Alcester, Avon Dassett, Clifford Chambers and Milcote, Dorsington, Farnborough, Fenny Compton, Gaydon, Ilmington and Compton Scorpion, Kineton, Ladbroke, Napton on the Hill, Priors Marston, Southam, Stockton, Studley, Tredington, Welford on Avon and a by-election in Wellesbourne (Mountford Ward).
