Local young people have a new ¼ pipe and flat bank ramp at Stratford District Council's Stratford Skate Park, located at the back of the leisure centre, after telling the District Council what they wanted and the District Council listening.

The new pre-cast concrete ramp costing over £12,000 has been funded by the Big Lottery as part of the District Council 'Play Strategy' and has been supplied by specialist installers Bendcrete Skate Parks.

The new equipment is part of an ongoing investment programme by the District Council to redevelop the facility, following the removal of the original wooden skate park last year.

Councillor Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: “The District Council is committed to providing facilities for the young people of the District and over the last three years has invested over £80,000 in new equipment chosen by the local young people who regularly use the Stratford skate park.

“It is vitally important that we listen to young people of our District and try to give them something they want; they are the experts and users of this facility after all.  I am pleased that we have been able to involve young people in the decision making process and that their voices have been heard."

Further investment at the skate park will follow later this summer following a successful application to Stratford Town Trust by the 'Save Stratford Skate Park Appeal' Group. The group support by Cllr Kate Rolfe and chaired by local young people has been awarded a grant of £15,000 coupled with an additional £3,000 that the young people have raised themselves will ensure that up to three new ramps can be purchased and installed.
