Please don't bag up your recycling.

When your recycling is collected it is taken to a recycling centre where the contents of the bin are sorted and sent out to various places where the raw materials can be processed.

To make this process affordable economic and to allow people to put out mixed recycling this process has to be highly mechanised. For the machines to work effectively it is really important that the material is loose in your bin.

If the material is in bags, even bio-degradable bags, it cannot go through the sorting plant and it can end up having to go to landfill.

Biodegradable plastic bags will decompose in land fill more quickly than some other bags but they still stop the machines from sorting the waste.

It is important for that we recycle as much of our waste as possible because this is better for the environment and reduces the waste that goes to landfill.

If you have too much recyclable waste to fit in your bin we will collect recycling placed in an open box next to your bin.
