Stratford-on-Avon District Council together with partners will be hosting the Community Games this Saturday 23 July at the Recreation Ground, Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Community Games are free and will take place from 12noon until 5pm to celebrate the 1 year count down to the 2012 London Games.

The Community Games are designed to bring the community together to celebrate both sport and culture. The event offers free sport, music and entertainment for all the family to take part in and inspired by the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Activities will include a climbing wall, hula hooping & circus skills workshops, puppet shows, various Olympic sports 'have a go' sessions, traditional sports day games and much much more.

The Chairman of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Cllr Eric Payne, will officially open the Stratford-upon-Avon Community Games 2011 at 12noon at the Bandstand on the Recreation Ground.

Councillor Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio at Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: “The Community Games offer a unique opportunity for people to get involved in a community event.  You don't need to be sporty as these games are just as much about celebrating cultural achievements as sporting endeavours and offers a chance to show what makes Stratford District so special."
