Two key reports for Stratford-on-Avon District will be published today, Thursday 25 August, which provide evidence for the District's housing numbers and employment land requirements and will be used as part of the emerging Core Strategy.

On Monday 5 September The Cabinet will make a recommendation of a housing growth option that should be taken forward for consultation as part of the preparation of the Local Development Framework Core Strategy and for the assessment of the District's housing land supply.  There are several options identified by the Consultants for consideration by The Cabinet.

The Employment Land Study provides a comprehensive and robust basis for considering the amount, type and broad location of additional employment land that should be provided in the District from 2008 to 2028.

Councillor Chris Saint, Leader: “All the professional advice we have been expecting is with us and is published today, 25 August, as papers for the District Council's Cabinet meeting on Monday 5 September.  The report emphasises the links between the need for housing, local prosperity and land required to provide employment.

“There are some interesting findings in the reports and most of the current employment sites can be adapted for the emerging range of business development in the District."

  • Stratford-on-Avon District Council is currently preparing its Local Development Framework Core Strategy.  This document will supersede much of the adopted Local Plan Review.
  • The LDF Core Strategy will determine the overall extent of housing and other forms of development in the district from 2008 to 2028 as well as setting out policies and proposals regarding the location of development within the district.
  • Given the revocation of Regional Spatial Strategies by the Coalition Government local planning authorities will now establish the development requirements for their area for the purpose of compiling a Core Strategy.
  • The Employment Land Study assesses the amount and type of employment land that is required in the District to assist in maintaining the economic health of the areas and in supporting a supply of job opportunities for its residents.
