To help in the fight against metal thefts in the District, Stratford-on-Avon District Council has employed a new tactic – 'recycled plastic' street name plates.

Signway Supplies, based in Basingstoke are working with the District Council in supplying these new types of signs.  The new plates are made of recycled plastic and have zero scrap value.

The first sign installed was in Pillerton Priors, last week (photo attached) with another one due to be installed in Landsdowne Road, Studley shortly.

The plastic is made of post consumer and post industrial waste which as well as having environmental benefits are also guaranteed for 35 years and is comparable with the cost of metal signs.

Cllr Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: “This is an innovative solution to the problem and hopefully this will act as a deterrent against future thefts.  It costs a lot of money to replace signs, so let's hope that this helps keep costs down in the future."
