Big Splash - Stratford District takes the plunge

Stratford-on-Avon District Council in partnership with Everyone Active who operate the District Council's leisure centres has taken the plunge and signed up for the Big Splash Programme the UK's biggest ever campaign to promote swimming.

Thirteen million people in the UK are already making a Big Splash by taking part in swimming events across the country and the District Council and Everyone Active is promoting swimming to all abilities and age groups with the help of the support of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).

Organised by British Swimming and the BBC as part of the of countdown to the London 2012 Olympics, the campaign offers special discounts and promotions for families and learners and the Council's 4 swimming pools.

Cllr Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: “Swimming is a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy and no matter what your age or ability, swimming and water-based activities can provide you with a good work out."

To take part all you need to do is visit the Big Splash website - www.splashpath.com/swimmingoffers/new and enter your postcode to be directed to your nearest participating centre and print off a voucher and take it to your chosen swimming pool to claim your discount offer.

Double Olympic champion Becky Adlington who is supporting the campaign says: “Swimming is my life but just getting in the pool a couple of times a week is a really great way of getting active and staying healthy. I'm right behind anything that encourages people to take the plunge and swim more often."
