In September, the District Council launched a campaign to help reduce the amount of non-recyclable material in recycling bins with the aim of; improving the quality of material collected, minimising environmental impact and keeping landfill tax down. From recently released figures the message appears to be working.
As part of the campaign, during September residents with non-recyclable material in their blue-lidded bins, received information in the form of 'warning' stickers. Following this, residents are being asked to remove non-recyclable materials before their bins will be emptied.
Cllr Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: “Stratford District residents have shown they are great at recycling as we've almost reached a 60 per cent recycling rate. But it is extremely important that we give a clear message to residents about what should and shouldn't be placed in their blue-lidded recycling bin.
“These recent figures show that the levels of contamination are reducing and that's down to the diligence of our residents – it's thanks to them that our recycling figures are the best in Warwickshire and it shows what we can achieve by all working together."
For further information on the District Council's recycling service please visit the website at www.stratford.gov.uk, free-internet access is available at District Council offices and libraries and all the information about what you can and cannot recycle is all contained in the Council Tax booklet sent to every District resident with their Council Tax bill at the beginning of the year.
